About This Content Western Pacific’s Feather River Canyon route is one of the most famous, scenic, and highly-engineered railroad lines in all of North America. The Western Pacific was a late comer to America’s railroad scene – WP was not incorporated to build its main line from Salt Lake City to the San Francisco Bay Area until 1903, and its final spike was not driven until 1909. As a result, the Western Pacific was constructed to exceptional engineering standards that featured numerous high trestles, bridges, and tunnels, and a routing that topped the rugged Sierra Nevada Mountains with an eastbound ruling grade of 1 percent. Train Simulator’s Feather River Canyon route recreates the dramatic Western Pacific main line from Oroville to Quincy Junction, California, as it existed in the late 1960s and early 1970s and the route also includes a segment of the Inside Gateway (Western Pacific’s important connection with the Great Northern and later Burlington Northern) from Keddie to Crescent Mills, as well as the trackage of the lumber-hauling Quincy Railroad short line. The route brings to life the remarkable locations and features of the Feather River Canyon, including famous Keddie Wye and Spanish Creek trestle, bustling Oroville yard and roundhouse, the iconic rail and road bridges of Pulga, and the nearly countless tunnels, such as the “Honeymoon Tunnels” near Belden, that Western Pacific’s visionary builders used to form the WP into a railroad engineering marvel.Included with the Feather River route are General Electric U30B and EMD F7 diesels in Western Pacific’s flashy orange and silvery livery and a selection of period-authentic freight rolling stock including a Western Pacific bay-window caboose. The scenery is fantastic, has good amount of rolling stock and two great detailed locomotives! This is a must have for any train sim user!. I have just bought it after reading the reviews, many negative ones about not having interactive loading facilities, which I totally agree are a bit of a disappointment. But I decided to buy it for the scenery and am most impressed. I was going to wait for a sale but decided that may be too far away. I am more than pleased to have paid full price, just for the scenic quality.. This is one of the best routes DTG had made! The scenery is very realistic, and they have done a excellent modelling job! If you want to get a Mounatin route, get this!. The best route I've seen from Dovetail. I love everything exept the fact that the Southern Pacific part of the route isn't there and that the old route isn't there. Would love to see the Old Route in the Map. Also, why isn't there a Free Roam Scenario?I give this route a 8\/10;Positive- Amazing Details. (+0.5)- Lovely Loco's and Rolling Stock. (+1)- Big map. (+1)- 3D Train tracks .(+2)- Custom assets. (+1)- New Loco's. (+2.5 - Not a electric route. (+1)- New rail-road company; Western Pacific. (+0.5)- Very good Scenario's. (+0.5)Negative- Old Route not included. (-0.5)- Not engough Loco's and Rolling Stock. (-0.5) *Where are the Passenger Locomotives and Rolling Stock?- No Free-Roam Scenario's. (-0.5)- No Scenario's with atleast one Steam-Locomotive included. (-0.5)Total: 10-2= 8\/10. A great route, very detailed. However, as a passenger fan I am always disappointed when a USA route is created with only locos and freight stock. Surely it would be easy to add a passenger consist in WP livery. "California Zephyr" for example. Having lived in the Feather River Canyon for about 6 months as a child, and having transistioned through it after moving to Greenville, California (Its the next town beyond Crescent Mills) many times to get to the central valley, I'm quite impressed at how they modeled this. It is very accurate. When I lived in the Canyon I lived near Tobin where the two bridges cross each other in the route. Now being a resident of Texas I play this route very often. Even the dams that make up the DeSabla hydro division of PG&E are very accurately depicted. I know people are looking at a review as to how it plays and stuff, but I really bought it for what it was, first. I just hope someday they expand the route up to Portola, which is a major UP crew change area now.As for playability, I think it works very well. There are a lot of scenarios out there for this route now and I've probably played them all. The add on for the F Unit WP locomotives works very well too, and gives you a nice view as you're going up or down the canyon. The Keddie Wye is top notch as well.Overall, this is probably my favorite route to drive in this game, and I'm moving up or down the canyon quite often with this expansion now. If you like the game, I'd highly reccomend it. Its a nice 90 minute to a two hour drive depending on what you're doing. Watch your brakes on the downhill though!. As a real Railroad Engineer, I must say this route has instantly won favour with me. Dovetail Games have raised the bar and the realism in operating a real locomotive is very high. This is amazing and if you want some nice scenery with good freight operations this is it. If you are a pure passenger buff this probably won't interest you.But most railroad fans are not just into passenger trains. The quality of this route is lovely.I would give it 9.8\/10.. Superbly put together route. Really scenic and captures what I assume is the feel of the area nicely. Even though I have a low spec PC (lower than the min requirements to be honest), I still get a decent frame rate on default settings.Included rolling is very well modelled, although the loco horn sounds seem a little muted.Interesting to see a portion of the Inside Gateway route included too.Included scenarios are very enjoyable. Would like to see a few more, but thats par for the course with current TS add-ons.One notable criticism. I feel potential buyers should be aware that the route runs from Oroville to Quincy Junction (including the Quincy Railroad). The section of the route from Quincy to Chilcoot Tunnel is not included. I do feel that this is an important omission, as it means that features such as Williams Loop, Spring Garden Tunnel, Clio Trestle, Portola Yard and the approach to Beckworth Pass itself are not included. Personally, I woud have preferred to pay a little more (and probably lose the section of the Inside Gateway) in order to have these included.Don't let this put you off though, its still an amazing route. I just hope they consider a 'part 2' route heading further east! (to Reno perhaps???). Very nicely done and beautiful scenery....probably the best scenery addition I own. With that said, if you don't like or want realistic scenery, then this isn't for you. Most of the route is single track with speed at 25 mph. No fast rail here and not a lot of other traffic. I've never driven trains in real life, however, this is exactly what I would expect if I did......a lot of time and challenges of hauling heavy freight over track while enjoying the beauty of nature!! I've only owned this package for about a week, however, it has become and will be a favorite of mine for a long time to come!!!. Very impressive route that DTG ever made! The locos are great and very well placed scenery everywhere especially it being a mountian rotue.
